Our Mission

The aim of the Alaya Foundation is to aid in the relief of poverty for victims whose lives have been touched by a natural disaster.

Its actions: to provide the inhabitants of these regions with the necessities of life, including shelter with a common area, food, drinking water, clothes, access to health care, basic education as well as training programs to ensure their future needs are met.

The Alaya Foundation works closely with these affected populations around the world.

In 2014, Martine Breuillaud travelled to the foothills of the Himalayas. This is where the idea was born of setting up the Alaya Foundation, which means “the house where one feels good”.

On April 25th 2015, she was in Kathmandu during the earthquake, and it was impossible for her not to return to help her Nepalese friends. Alaya takes shape, and by 2016 The Alaya Foundation is officially recognized as a charity:

Registration number in Canada: 80917 9922 RR0001.

Registration number in Quebec: 1171142848.

The Alaya Foundation was created in 2015. Father Benoît Lacroix hosted our very first fund- raising event, encouraging our fledging foundation through his generosity, spirit of openness, interest in world cultures and desire to bring people together. He had just turned 100 years old.

This first evening was followed by various thematic events featuring artists, guest speakers and journalists, continuously characterized by the will to gather together in diversity and to share information about our primary mission.

Dear guests and members of the audience, you have often by responded by demonstrating your commitment to our actions and you have been most generous. We would like to thank you, once again.

The three objectives of Alaya’s mission

  • Alleviate poverty for communities that have been affected by natural disasters. This is accomplished by working closely with the people of these communities, helping them acquire the basic amenities of life, including food, drinking water, clothing, access to health care, shelter and a gathering place, as well as the tools to foster self-sufficiency, such as seeds and animals.

  • Promote education by supporting the restoration of educational facilities, such as public schools, fostering homework programs for children, as well as offering literacy classes to all those affected by these disasters.

  • Facilitate access to training programs in construction, hygene and basic craftsmanship, to enable victims to be self sufficient and meet their own needs in a timely fashion.
